PortLiner at World Port Days festival in Rotterdam!

PortLiner has been present at the World Port Days festival in Rotterdam, on 1, 2 and 3 September 2023. This annual maritime event  has attractedmore about 400,000 visitors. PortLiner had joined the "Kansen voor West" stand, the agency that manages EU programmes like ERDF and Just Transition Fund (JTF). It has been a good occasion for many visitors to know more about our maritime flow batteries!

Gelderlander newspaper: PortLiner can finally start building

On 10 August 2023, the regional newspaper De Gelderlander has published an article on PortLiner's next step, the building of a recharging and storage pontoon, equipped with flow battery technology for the maritime market. PortLiner has finally, after a lengthy procedure, obtained formal permission to moor its pontoon at the Hartel Channel , at the heart of the Rotterdam port area. PortLiner can now start the building process, for the pontoon and the first ships that will "tank" the pontoon's elektricity.

CLIMATE CHANGE: A THREAT TO HUMAN WELLBEING AND HEALTH OF THE PLANET TAKING ACTION NOW CAN SECURE OUR FUTURE

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the UN body for assessing the science related to climate change.  The IPPC provides political leaders with periodic scientific assessments concerning climate change, its implications and risks, as well as to put forward adaptation and mitigation strategies.  On 28 February 2022 a new IPCC climate report was published, describing the worsening of climate conditions: “The world faces unavoidable multiple climate hazards over the next two decades with global warming of 1.5°C (2.7°F). Even temporarily exceeding this warming level will result in additional severe impacts, some of which will be irreversible. Risks for society will increase, including to infrastructure and low-lying coastal settlements.”

EUROPEAN GREEN DEAL: COMMISSION PROPOSES TRANSFORMATION OF EU ECONOMY AND SOCIETY TO MEET CLIMATE AMBITIONS (FIT FOR 55)

Today, the European Commission adopted a package of proposals to make the EU's climate, energy, land use, transport and taxation policies fit for reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels. Achieving these emission reductions in the next decade is crucial to Europe becoming the world's first climate-neutral continent by 2050 and making the European Green Deal a reality. With today's proposals, the Commission is presenting the legislative tools to deliver on the targets agreed in the European Climate Law and fundamentally transform our economy and society for a fair, green and prosperous future.

EPO-IEA STUDY: RAPID RISE IN BATTERY INNOVATION PLAYING KEY ROLE IN CLEAN ENERGY TRANSITIONS

In a joint study, the European Patent Agency and the International Energy Agency report an increase in battery research, in particular regarding flow batteries. The report, Innovation in batteries and electricity storage – a global analysis based on patent data, shows that batteries account for nearly 90% of all patenting activity in the area of electricity storage.
